Digital Text Pioneer, R.I.P.

I was sorry to hear of the death of Fr. Roberto Busa this past week. Fr. Busa was one of the first who used digital computers for textual purposes. He started out by putting the works of St. Thomas Aquinas on computer punch cards. People say he had thought about a similar work with the Dead Sea Scrolls, but the St. Thomas Aquinas project took all of his time. An article about Fr. Busa can be found HERE. Fr. Busa’s work brought to the Internet HERE and HERE. Any time we use a computer Bible program or religious file, we should remember that the good Fr. Busa wise one of the first to bring such things to the digital age. Thank you, Fr. Busa.
